About the Motherhood Center of New York

205 Lexington Ave, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10016

Founded by Dr. Catherine Birndorf, The Motherhood Center of New York has spent over a decade helping local pregnant and postpartum women through their perinatal day program and other programs, getting women with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) on the road to recovery. The Motherhood Center supports women through comprehensive mental health treatments for postpartum depression, prenatal and postpartum anxiety, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and postpartum psychosis. This center offers both in-person and virtual services, equipping moms with the resources they need to feel better faster. The treatment consists of evaluation, therapy, medication, and support groups, helping women feel less alone in their parenting journey.

Services

The Motherhood Center of New York offers one-of-a-kind programs, including the Perinatal Day Program, therapy, medication management, and support groups. Becoming a mother in modern times often feels more challenging than ever, and many women struggle to find the “bliss” that comes with having a newborn. Pressures from society and social media can make that even more difficult, but the truth is that motherhood isn’t easy. The Motherhood Center gives moms a safe space to explore their true feelings.

The Perinatal Day Program includes comprehensive care for new and expectant mothers who experience depression or moderate to severe PMAD symptoms. This day program helps struggling mothers feel much better – and faster than they would without the support from the Motherhood Center.

Outpatient treatment includes evaluation, ongoing therapy, medication management, and trying-to-conceive consultations. The services at The Motherhood Center are always empowering, evidence-based, and supportive for mothers at all stages of the journey.

The Motherhood Center focuses on inclusivity, acknowledging that no two stories are identical. Therapeutic services are always accessible and accommodating for parents of all identities and backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ people. This center strives to be a safe space where race, identity, gender, and sexual orientation are taken into account with respect and care.

Specialty

The Motherhood Center of New York offers an array of support groups to help pregnant and postpartum mothers thrive. These virtual groups meet people right where they are in their parenting journey, helping women feel less alone in their struggles. Support groups are designed for new or expecting mothers. Unlike treatment groups, these communities are meant to be useful in combination with group therapy and/or medication management. Groups include Postpartum Support Group, After The NICU, and Having Another Baby After A PMAD.

The Motherhood Center’s website has a wealth of information on PMAD education. PMADs include baby blues, prenatal and postpartum depression, prenatal and postpartum anxiety, prenatal and postpartum OCD, and prenatal and postpartum PTSD. They also feature a variety of webinars clients can access on topics from breastfeeding support to managing your child’s behavior.
