Oh, the sweetness! This is adorable baby Olivia at her first birthday cake smash photo session in my Brooklyn, NY photography studio.
I love photographing babies as newborns, but I also love capturing other milestones as they grow. Like their first birthday! Some parents are hesitant to book a cake smash session because their little one is shy and they aren’t sure how they will react to being in front of a camera. Don’t worry. I have a reputation as a baby whisperer for a reason! I take my time during a cake smash or milestone session so that your baby can warm up to the idea.
Usually, I begin my sessions before we bring out the cake so we can get some clean and frosting-free portraits. 🙂 This also gives your little one a chance to get used to their new surroundings: In this case, a beautiful pink-purple balloon arch decorated with butterflies! Once we’ve captured some one-year portraits and the baby is feeling a little more comfortable, it’s time for the cake smash. Every little one reacts differently to this, and part of the fun is capturing whatever their expressions are. Olivia was curious about her cake and a little cautious at first, but eventually, she decided to dig in.
After a first birthday cake smash photoshoot, I like to finish up our session with a splash–literally! This gets baby all clean again. Plus, is there anything cuter than baby pictures in the tub? I don’t think so!
